Choo Wai Lim, Sonny

I really had a jolly good time tonight. The last time I saw most of them was 32 years ago. We parted way. I thought that was the last I saw my fellow buddies...And that was Form 5 in 1974. The parting of friends in Form 6 of 1976 was a different feeling altogether....

When I walked into the party, I only recognised few and they're those I met occassionally. The rest, zilch, never know who they are!! The name tags we wore, helped; jogged and refreshed our memories.

Names I knew and called in the 1970s, in the classes, recesses and PE didn't help anymore. Before the evening started, at that split second, linking the name tag with the face it carried, I knew most of them again. We launched into talks. It didn't just happen to me, many experienced it too...

To me, it is not just about the classes, lessons, fun and events we went through together. It is about celebrating our lives and how each of us ploughed and moved on, planted our careers, raised families....

The wrinkles on the faces, sagged cheeks, receding hairline, beer bellies, coloured teeth, thick glasses are some of the assets we acquired during our long absence.

The days of Mr Lye Hai Hai, Mr Chiam, Miss Koh, Miss Cecilia, Mr Anthony Lim, Mr Dominic Yeo etc etc flashed through my thoughts. There was the headmasters I knew, Mr De Cruz, Mr D.P. Pereira and later Mr Micheal Parry.

The night went by. With it, 32 years came and slipped by too. 32 long years. The legacies some of them, teachers, my classmates left behind, I will remember until the end of my days. That night, I slept like a child and I dreamt about my days in Muar High School....

It will be great to see all of you again after so long. I just got this email forwarded to me by Thomas Koh and he briefed me of a Class of 74' get together on the 1st day CNY. What a great idea of an opportunity to meet all those old friends again....some, to be very honest, I simply cannot remember their faces anymore...and some, I am sure, will look like they have never changed! Whatever it is, it will be a great meeting for all to meet one another and talk about the good old times of some 30 years ago!

Goh Yong Huat was the first to call me this afternoon. We spoke a little and unfortunately I had to cut the call short as I was in the middle of a meeting with my Client. Apologies Goh. Will call you later tonight :-)

The last I met with Sia Swee King was in Singapore in 1990....I was working in Spore then and so was Swee King. Wonder if he had taken up Spore PR. Lim Say Boon went overseas to study political science I believe, and that was the last I heard of him.

I am sure many of you might remember our English literature teacher in '74 - the one with the mini skirts? A Ms. Ho Kooi Lin (or something in this vein). Met her in Singapore when I was working there. After she left Muar as a teacher, she went to work for the Spore PUB and got married with a Singaporean. Lost touch with her after I got back to KL.

I know Lim Lian Thye is working in Wilson Sports based here in Kota Kemuning. Will let him know of this get together.....if someone could advise me here of where the meet is. I heard from Tom that it will be on the 1st day of CNY but I dont know the venue of the meet. Unfortunately. I wont be able to make it as I will be outstation on the 1st day of CNY. If it is on another day, it will be great otherwise, no worries, we will meet again now that we have each others contact :-).

Ahhhh, would be great to meet up with Lye Hai Hai again.... remembered he always told us during Maths lessons that he 'made-half-a-mistake-in-life' story? :-) If my memory serves me right, his favourite shoes were 'Clarks'

Goh Yong Huat

This is FANTASTIC. We (Teck lee, Chan Guan, Simon Tay etc) talked about this get together for years, but nothing materialised until now. Thanks to the efforts of the Or-kui-naisers ..Op..Organisers!

Over the last few days, had been making calls to many long lost classmates (32 years!!) and it definitely brings back lots of good memories...Just wonder whether we will be able to recognise each other, as I believe most of us, have grown sideways ! Hahaha...not hard feelings, cos I am one of them !

I have managed to contact some of the guys and hopefully they will all turn up, esp those who do not have anymore family ties in Muar, like Chua Kok Ching; Eng Nam Heng, Thomas Koh. On behalf of our classmates, I thank you for the trip...

So, Friends, I definitely will be there, and look forward to seeing all of you ...

Attached is a most recent photo of my `gang'. Superimpose a pair of specs on that lanky guy for those having difficulty picturing me now versus 30 years ago.

I am most please to receive a call from Lai Man three evenings ago. He told me to be present at Classic on CNY to meet up with Class of 1974 High School Muar. That was a great idea, and a lot catching up to do. Over my mobile,a list of names were given, such as Sia Swee King,Lim Say Boon,Ho Wah Kiow,Thomas Koh shot up my adrenalin juice. Looking back, it was some 30 years ago of catching up to do.We were then kids of age 16 or 17,like our children today.

Having read some of the emails circulated,I am looking forward to attend this CNY Get-together. By the way,has anyone informations on these Missing Persons?
1)Kenny> Cousin to Thomas Koh
2)Quek Thian Kerk>I was told he is an engineer somewhere
3)Ng Ing Ling>I was told he is working in Spore

Besides these,Lai Man request me to contact and invite our former teachers to this CNY
1)Mr Yah Teck Chu>Volley teacher and taught us Biology
2)Mr Santa Singh> WOW....
3)Mr Lye Hai Hai> Taught us Add Maths,he gave my son maths tuition a few years back

P/S: I have 2 boys 13 and 21. Left High School in 1974,for UK.After my graduation in Economics in 1980,got mixed up with the furniture business.Ever since then ,I became a carpenter for 26 years....[mailto:manfredd@tm.net.my]

Since we have not met for 30 years, I thought it is best that I send a recent photo for visual recognition. If you have difficulty figuring out which one is Me in the picture ... I think I am in big trouble...

Lim Yeu Siang

Belated Happy New Year to you all and your families. Trust 2005 has been a good year and hopefully 2006 will be better.

Unfortunately I have not been back to Muar to celebrate the CNY for the past few years. My dad and some of my other siblings come down to Singapore instead. As such, will not be able to make it for the proposed re-union on Jan 29. I must admit I would love to meet up with some of the classmates but most likely would end up embarrassing myself for not remembering their names. I cannot even recall who Lee Chan Guan, Ng Teck Lee and Tee Swee Hock are (definitely a sign of age)! I presume Azmi is Azmi Tambi Chik? Please take some photos of the reunion and pass them around. John.Lim@Infineum.com

Tey Sin Chin

Hi guys, just got your message as I was travelling. I'll not be back in Muar as my parents are here in Singapore. Hope to be able to catch up with you guys some other time. Best wishes to you & your families for the new year. sinchin@singnet.com.sg

Chua Kok Eng

Hi Chun Aik, Its a surprise to hear from you again after such a long time (especially your phone call the other nite). My folks are in Singapore so I will not be going to Muar for the CNY. Sounds like a good idea for those in S'pore to get-together to exchange notes. Perhaps around the CNY period would be convenient? cke1@hdb.gov.sg

Lee Lik Meng

Happy 2006 and Gong Xi Fa Chai!

Good to hear from you guys. Unfortunately I am not going back to Malaysia this year. Would have been great to catch up. In fact I was looking at some of our school photos just recently. I must admit I do not remember many of the names.

We were in KL in Jan 2004 (my wife comes from KL). We drove to Muar (my first visit after >20 years. I met Matthew Foo at Tanjung. I am also copying this email to Matthew in case he will be back there. Matthew and I also visited Hiew Song at his surgery.

I also went to St Andrew's. Much to my surprise, I met Cheng Hwa there. Keep in touch and should any of you visit Sydney, call me. chlim@triako.com.au

Chan Swee Hong

There are a couple of guys I know by the name of Mui Yong Chee, ?? Siew Thye, ??? Kim Hong (tallest lady in Bio-Science class), Poh Tzu Seng (sounds like that). Hopefully, someone remembers their full name and contacts. And if we can get hold of Kok Ching what about Kok Eng, they are brothers. shchan@kuokgroup.com

Kwan Pak Kean

It's great to hear about the dinner. Well, much as I would like to b there, I am presently "stuck" in Singapore due to my commitments. It would be quite difficult for me to make the trip back to Muar at this juncture. However, I look forward to other opportunities and timings for such gatherings. Keep me posted.

I am in touch with Chi Cheng and Seah Kim Keat. They will be going back to Muar for CNY. I will let them know this gathering. I have Tan Siow Chuan's Muar home phone number and I can similarly give him a call. I used to have Lim Hock Joo's home number but it seems to hv been changed. But Siow Chuan can help make the contact.

Oh, yes, I am sure there will be lots of exchange of contacts during the event and I hope you would be able to compile a list of Who's Who after that. I would like to receive this list and get back in touch with my old friends again; at least over the internet for a start...

Willcan Loh

Have not decided to stay overnight in Muar (no booking done)so can't confirm joining the dinner. There is indications that my family here in KL has something on, like last year, so may make my way back only on 1st evening of CNY.
